Marieke Nieuwaal (London) started her career in the energy sector as a project engineer at Heerema Marine Contractors, where she worked on the design and procedures of marine installation of pipelines. She subsequently worked as a project manager at Royal Haskoning, a global Dutch consultancy firm, on infrastructure and water management projects and programs in Europe, East Asia and Africa for public and private sector clients, including for the World Bank, the AsDB and other international financing institutions. As Country Manager for Royal Haskoning in Vietnam, Marieke Nieuwaal initiated, set up and managed an innovative pilot project aiming to supply water to and mitigate the impacts of floods and droughts on local communities. Marieke Nieuwaal has also worked for a non-profit organisation in Africa on soil and water conservation projects, where she facilitated community awareness and training and raised funds.

Marieke Nieuwaal holds an MBA from INSEAD and a M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. While at INSEAD, she was serving as a Co-President of INDEVOR, INSEAD’s social impact club.
